The Arctic Protectors
In the frozen lands of the North, an unlikely trio of freedom fighters has come together to protect the people, wildlife, and delicate environment of the Arctic. Through a strong bond based on undying loyalty, Power Penguin, The Walrus and CyberWolf combine their unique abilities to fight for the rights of all inhabitants of the Arctic North and protect them and their environment from all who attempt to destroy it and their way of life.
Power Penguin
"Operation:Iceberg" was a top secret U.S. Navy experiment conducted in a remote location near the Aleutian Islands with the goal of training marine life to plant and remove military equipment and weaponry in subzero climates. Subject #9 of the project was a penguin with a fierce independent streak and a talent for escaping seemingly insurmountable danger. One evening during a training mission, #9, whom the affiliated SEAL team nicknamed "Scratch" for the scars born on his chest after an incident with an explosive, became separated from the training team due to an unexpected storm. The team was forced to postpone search efforts until the next morning.
That night, Scratch fell ill after eating some fish which had swum through a strange substance that had been spilled into the sea. He struggled to remain conscious throughout the night and was discovered by the training team the following morning, dazed and motionless, floating on the surface of the water.
After several days of recovery and observing the SEAL team train, the penguin realized he was experiencing an evolution. His body was physically growing and becoming stronger, faster, and more humanoid. His mind was quickly developing a heightened intelligence and awareness. He seemed to absorb everything he had seen and experienced during his training and observations of the SEALs; the weapons, the strategy discussions, the determination to complete a mission. It all made sense to him. He had become a lean, mean and trained member of one of the world's elite military establishments.
Once he felt strong enough, and before anyone would notice his transformation, Scratch decided to make a break for it. In the dead of night, he bent the wires of his cage with his newly developed strength, collected several duffle bags of equipment and weapons, and slipped into the icy waters determined to find the source of his extraordinary metamorphosis.
The U.S. Government suspected international spies were behind the theft of the equipment and Subject #9 and put a halt to the operation until further information could be gathered. Since that time, the Navy has learned that Scratch is alive and loose in the wild. Clearly something strange has happened to #9 and the Navy's top brass are determined to discover the truth.
The Walrus (Odobenus Rosmarus)
In the silent darkness of the Arctic North, a small vessel carrying a load of an experimental substance darted across the icy waters and disappeared through a pitch black cave. Unbeknownst to the crew of that vessel, a curious walrus followed behind as they cruised through a secret entrance into the earth-based testing lab of an alien race known as the Domi Nation. This walrus kept his distance while rummaging for food and wandered into a storage area for the Domi's secret formula. Continuing his search, the oversized marine mammal bumped and banged against the containment units eventually spilling some of the formula onto the floor. He crawled through the spill, and even ingested a portion of the substance, before moving on to find something more pleasant to the taste.
As he continued his investigation of the secret lab, the walrus began a strange realization. In his observations of the Domi, he began to understand their strange language. He could read and understand their calculations seemingly better than the Domi themselves. His intelligence was quickly increasing to an unbelievable level. His physical size and strength were also dramatically growing. "The odd substance I tasted earlier; Augmentum-249... it's an enhancement formula. It must be the source of my metamorphosis." The evolving creature quickly realized he needed to flee the lab before he could be discovered. He gathered up as much equipment and data he could get into his massive flippers and made his way out of there.
Shortly after his escape, The Walrus made his way to a sunken cargo ship near San Francisco which the Domi had discussed during his time in their lab. It had been carrying a mother load of the Augmentum and he thought he may be able to get some answers by investigating. However, upon his arrival, The Walrus was astonished at what he saw.
Two creatures were locked in a fierce battle. A starfish and a penguin were violently fighting; although, it was quite one-sided. What’s more is that these animals were apparently physically and mentally altered, just as The Walrus had been. The one known as STarmorfish was pulverizing Power Penguin unmercifully. It was obvious to The Walrus that STarmorfish was pure evil. Just as Power Penguin went unconscious, another being arrived; a star-spangled lobster known as Captain Crustacean joined the fight against STarmorfish.
This was his chance. With STarmorfish distracted, The Walrus scooped up the battered Penguin, grabbed a couple of containers of the formula, and made a quick escape to safety. He and Power Penguin quickly became loyal friends and established a base of operations in the Arctic North where The Walrus (who is fond of being known as Odobenus Rosmarus) develops state-of-the-art weaponry and equipment for Power Penguin to utilize in their fight to protect the innocent from STarmorfish and others who threaten a peaceful existence.
Odobenus keeps in mind his findings during his time in the Domi lab and is not without his secrets. He speaks and understands the Domi language and fully comprehends the inner workings of Augmentum-249. For some reason, he keeps this knowledge to himself while researching and investigating the alien race in an attempt to discover their true purpose on our planet. Is this to protect his partner and close friend, or does The Walrus have a sinister hidden agenda?
CyberWolf
Pursued by poachers through the Alaskan wilderness, the beta male of a wolf pack separated himself from the others in an attempt to draw the men away. The plan worked and a long chase ensued during which the brave wolf endured several shots. Just as he dashed across a highway in hopes of losing his assailants in a dense forest, a large semi-truck struck the canine taking the already bullet-ridden animal down to the pavement. Feeling his life slipping away, the wolf watched through hazy eyes as the hunters approached. However, before they would reach him, a strange figure appeared wielding weapons much like men and sent the poachers scrambling for their lives. As the figure neared, the wolf faded out of consciousness.
He awoke in a strange place and was approached by the one who had saved him. It was a penguin; at least it looked like a penguin, but he was speaking. Furthermore, the wolf could understand him. It was Power Penguin and he explained to the wolf the chase and the life-threatening injuries he had sustained. Power Penguin’s partner, The Walrus, had to take drastic measures in order to save the wolf’s life. His body had been torn to shreds by gunfire and the collision with the truck; so much so that parts of his body had to be replaced with cybernetics. Also, due to a substantial loss of blood, The Walrus was forced into the risky procedure of replacing the wolf’s blood with a pure dose of Augmentum-249; the same substance that caused their own transformations.
The procedure worked remarkably well and the wolf more than survived… He became CyberWolf; a cybernetic marvel with enhanced strength, amazing agility, and heightened intelligence. With a dead-eye aim, he fights alongside Power Penguin and The Walrus with the desire to protect the Arctic North from those bent on destroying it and its inhabitants.
