Born in 1686, Juan Dalón was the most feared pirate to roam the Spanish seas. For nearly twenty years he marauded hundreds of vessels and ports and built a fortune in gold, silver and jewelry. Hearing tales of wealth from the Far-East, Dalón and his crew set sail for the Orient with visions of riches far beyond his wildest imagination.
After several years of successful raids, Dalón's run of success would reach its end. He made the decision to attack an enormous ship just off the coast of Japan which was clearly stocked with treasure the likes of which neither he nor his men had ever seen. His lust for riches wouldn't allow him to ignore such a loot, and his confidence from years of nautical domination had built to a point that he felt unstoppable.
Unfortunately for Dalón and his crew, the vessel was captained by an ancient and powerful sorcerer. Within minutes of boarding the ship, every single one of Dalón's men were dispatched leaving him the sole survivor of his crew. Before Dalón could escape, the sorcerer cast a spell cursing him to spend the rest of his days as a creature of the sea. He swam off in a state of confusion trying to make sense of his new reality.
Juan "Pegfin" Dalon
As the years passed, Dalón regained his memory and sense of humanity. He went through many mental, emotional, and physical phases trying to accept what had happened. He didn't seem to be aging; was this due to the spell? Is it an eternal curse? Or is it just Dalon's will to live, and a taste for sorcerer's blood, that keeps him going? He was also slowly regaining his physical human form. He had even injured his tail fin and repaired it in a way as if he were human. This is what led to his commonly used alias of "Pegfin."
He remembered his days as a pirate and how it brought him great joy to raid and horde the treasure he would pillage. He began living the life of a pirate once again; although, in a very different way. During his slow evolution, Pegfin's physical strength and durability for ramming attacks had dramatically increased and he learned to use this to his advantage. He would track down cruise liners, cargo ships, and even military vessels and ram them with all his might causing catastrophic damage. The ship would sink and Pegfin would plunder the loot once it hit the ocean floor. He became quite good at his new profession. It's even thought by some that he may be responsible for disasters such as the sinking of the Titanic and many of the Bermuda Triangle disappearances.
Pegfin remains hidden in the shadows of the deep only discussed by some as something the likes of the Loch Ness Monster. He is a myth, a mystery... and that is how he intends to keep it. Although, there is one who knows of his existence, and he keeps Pegfin on a hook (so to speak) enticing him to do his bidding; for a pirate's reward, of course.
